Boston to Push: Extending Temporary Protected Status for Immigrants

BOSTON – A measure is pending before the Boston City Council to urge the Trump administration to extend Temporary Protected Status. TPS is a humanitarian program intended to provide safe haven in the U.S. for people fleeing dangers such as natural disasters, wars and gangs. Former Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, who is now the president’s chief of staff, has said TPS status for Haitian refugees fleeing an earthquake should end in January.
