Latinas En Control is a safe space where teenage girls can build community and gain skills to become leaders in their lives. The group provides a culturally relevant environment and meets on a weekly basis. Young women engage in a variety of educational and recreational activities such as teambuilding acitivities, field trips, and circle discussions around issues that are important to them.
L.E.C. uses Restorative Justice models and approaches in order to help members build community, make critical decisions, listen to each other, and begin a process of healing. Through the use of RJ approaches such as Peacemaking Circles, we raise questions that help young women explore themselves, and think about the values that guide them on a daily basis. We create a sacred space where young women can engage in meaningful ways, different than what they are used to outside of the group. L.E.C. is designed to repair harm within our community by addressing root causes, and not just the obvious and symptomatic issues.
